The Founders and Deism

From the historical documents of the Founding Fathers, it is evident that these men desired Christianity and a faith in God to be the foundation of the American civilization. However, many have claimed that the Founders were Deists. Did they believe that God created the world, but takes no further action or provide any special revelation for mankind?
