Pan Jinlian secretly met with Ximen Qing, neglecting her husband Wu Da, who returned home to an empty house. Street vendor Yuan Ge discovered their affair and informed Wu Da, who stormed Wang Po’s teahouse. Ximen Qing fled, while Wu Da confronted Pan Jinlian at home, threatening to tell Wu Song. Terrified, Pan Jinlian complied with Madam Wang’s scheming plan: under Ximen Qing’s persuasion, she poisoned Wu Da’s medicine with arsenic. Despite his protests at the bitter taste, Pan Jinlian forced him to drink it. Wu Da died instantly, leaving Pan Jinlian and Ximen Qing free to pursue their illicit relationship.
