Along the borders of Turkey
No season overview available.
The border between Greece and Turkey isn't just a border between two countries. It marks the divide between wealthy Europe and a world rife with poverty, war, and violence.
Just a year ago, relations between Syria and Turkey were flourishing like never before. The border seemed to have vanished. How radically has that perception changed now?
After crossing the border with Greece and Syria, correspondent Bram Vermeulen visits the one with Iraq. He visits the twilight zone of the Kurds, the only people in the region left stateless as a result of World War I. As the Kurds wander through Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, they fight for autonomy. The PKK demands recognition of their existence, while Turkey considers their armed struggle terrorism and cracks down on Kurds. This drives them back into the arms of the PKK.
The border between Turkey and Cyprus officially lies on the coastline of both countries.
