Tottenham were bidding for a fourth consecutive win over Blackburn and Newcastle travelled down to London to play Fulham at Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, Stoke were looking for a first top-flight double over Liverpool, having beaten the Reds 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium in November.
