Peter tells his mother that he is starting a new life: he is free from all obligations, the emperor has alienated him from himself, and the bride has run away. He goes to Olga to offer her to be together again. Olga informs Peter of her pregnancy. It is the child who keeps her from a rash step and she decides to stay with Mongo-Stolypin.
