George Mangham (Edward Woodward) is a talented world-weary jazz composer who has fallen on hard times and lives in a seedy world. He now works as a bass player at 'Larry's Club' in London.George lives alone with his cat, drinks endlessly and gambles. He plans on marrying a woman he does not love. He is forever being harassed by gangsters who he owes money to.
