The Jay-Jays

Also known as The Jumping Jewels

The Hague-based guitar group The Jay-Jays was based on the Fender Stratocaster sound of The Shadows. Thanks in large part to their manager, Herman Batelaan, the group managed to achieve international status with his professional approach. With their singer Johnny Lion (John van Leeuwarden), they enjoyed enormous success in the Netherlands during the period 1961–1965. Wild scenes involving hysterical fans often unfolded in the venues.
