Yousef Javan Arasteh

Yousef Javan-Arasteh (born 2001, Mashhad, Iran) is an Iranian filmmaker, screenwriter, cinematographer, and film editor. After completing his studies in Film Directing, he moved from Mashhad to Tehran, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Acting at the Faculty of Art, Islamic Azad University, Souhanak branch. Javan-Arasteh began his professional career working across various fields, including commercial filmmaking, short film editing, and cinematography for different projects. Throughout his career, he has consistently emphasized a deep understanding of cinematic tools and their role in storytelling. By taking on multiple creative responsibilities in his personal works, he has sought to develop an independent and distinctive cinematic voice. He has directed two short films to date. His first short, Bad Film, was a student project that opened new paths for him during his studies and early years in Tehran. His latest work, Ham-San (Identical), reflects his growing focus on exploring new forms of expression in both form and narrative. Javan-Arasteh’s main artistic pursuit is to find fresh and playful ways of storytelling—works that, beyond narrative, emphasize the author’s presence and personal vision in cinema.
