Stephen Di Gravio

Stephen Di Gravio is a Naarm/Melbourne-based writer, director, and producer known for character-driven, working-class stories that blend melancomedy—melancholy and comedy—with sincerity and heart. Raised by his Nonno and Nonna in the suburbs of Newcastle, Stephen’s passion lies in exploring empathy and understanding through storytelling, often through a multicultural lens. A co-founder of KIT3, Stephen has produced films with support from the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Multicultural Commission, including Good Gnocchi, a short documentary paying homage to his family, and White Side, a feature documentary exploring intergenerational trauma through a Vietnamese-Australian filmmaker’s search for his secret half-sister. Stephen's work has been recognised by festivals including SXSW Sydney, the Sony Film Festival, St Kilda Film Festival, and Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival. His postgraduate short Anna was selected for the 2023 Cannes Short Film Corner and received an Australian Directors Guild Award nomination. Currently working freelance, Stephen continues to develop short and long-form creative projects.
