Portugal: The Moliceiros Regatta

The lagoon city of Aveiro is located on the west coast of Portugal, between Lisbon and Porto. The city is characterized by its many small canals, on which the famous moliceiros sail—colorful gondola-like boats made of pine wood that have a long tradition. The highlight of the year is the moliceiros sailing regatta in August: the Festival of Emigrants.
